Touring the Dominican Republic - Part 1
Travel Highlights: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
So you want to know what’s up (“que lo que”) in the Dominican Republic? For a Caribbean Summer Vacation, my cousin and I embarked on an 11-day independent tour of the beautiful country of the Dominican Republic. We arrived by direct (non-stop) flight from JFK Airport (NYC) and arrived in the tropical Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) within four hours. We started our tour in the vibrant metro area Bávaro a neighborhood located Punta Cana where we kicked off our D.R. vacation. Fun fact, Bávaro is an area of beach resorts in Punta Cana, where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean on the Dominican Republic’s east coast.
Our vacation package included shared two-way airport/hotel transfers with Coming2, a popular tour company in Punta Cana, and we stayed at the gorgeous all-inclusive Royalton Resort & Casino Punta Cana.
My experience here was amazing and you may find it to be a great choice for your next vacation as well.
The Resort
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by staff and handed delicious spritzers and a refreshing cooling towels, then guided to the front desk for a swift check-in. Our luggage was awaited in our suite in a matter of minutes.Â

Punta Cana is a resort town in the easternmost region of the Dominican Republic. It is part of the Veron-Punta Cana municipal district, in the HigĂĽey municipality of La Altagracia Province. According to the 2010 census, this district had a population of 43,982 inhabitants.
Punta Cana is one of Latin America’s most popular tourist destinations, with more visitors than any country in the Caribbean region. The Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is located about 30 km inland, on the highway that leads from HigĂĽey to La Romana. This airport receives 64% of all flights that arrive in the country, receiving more passengers than the Las AmĂ©ricas International Airport, located in Santo Domingo, the country’s capital.
The area is known for its white sand beaches, blue turquoise waters, and balnearios which face both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The weather is hot for most of the year, especially in late summer and autumn when the Northern Tropics receive their most direct sunlight.
